Race for Life 2016

Good Evening :)

Hope you're all having a good week so far :)

Last Sunday myself and my mum took part in the Cancer Research Race for Life which raises money for such a good cause.

Below shows what the money your raise can fund. (From the Cancer Research Website)
  • £5 kits one of our research labs out with essential chemicals.
  • £8 kits out our scientists with a lab timer, helping them to find out what makes a cancer cell tick.
  • £20 buys a lab coat, box of gloves and goggles. Not only geek chic, but vital items to help our scientists carry out life-saving research.
  • £30 covers the cost of a cervical cancer trial for one day.
  • £70 pays for a Bunsen burner to help ignite groundbreaking research on a daily basis.
  • £180 pays for one day of a trial to discover faster diagnosis and new therapies to treat brain cancer.
  • £300 buys a hotplate to warm special solutions, turning up the temperature on groundbreaking research.
  • £400 is the cost of running Cancer Chat for one day helping thousands of people through very difficult times.
It's pretty amazing what can be done by raising some money.

The Day Itself:

I already knew what to expect because I did one a few years ago but it is so much fun, everyone is there for the same reason and there is so much enthusiasm.

We completed the 10k one in Sutton Park and raised £148 in total using the on line sponsor form and the paper form which I took round work.

A quick selfie before the race!

It took a total of an hour and 40 minutes to complete the full 10k which is approx 6.2 miles.

It was so nice because you'd go past and see so many different groups of people chatting and talking whilst going round and it was just all positive and happy. People who had just met where cheering each other on and making sure everyone was ok as it was quite a distance. There were no negative comments or vibes which was so refreshing.

I was number 551 and my mum was 552. There were a total of 671 people on the day!

We got our medals :)

As funny as this sounds as soon as I'd finished I just went straight to get some chips and a hot drink! :) I think that's how I finished the last kilometre :)

If you haven't done the Race for life before definitely give it a go, it's so much fun and helps the charity so much. There were stalls, bouncy castles etc its such a family friendly day out.

Have you done the Race for Life this year?

Thank you for reading and thank you to everyone who kindly made a donation :)
